Homewind vs. Wahoo KICKR Headwind

A dedicated training fan or the Xiaomi fan you already own: what each one does better.

Both cool you harder when your heart rate goes up. They take different routes: the Wahoo KICKR Headwind is a dedicated fan built for the bike, Homewind is firmware that turns a Xiaomi Smart Fan into a training fan.

Choose the Headwind if …

  • you want a fan shaped for the bike that works out of the box,
  • you use ANT+ sensors, or want fan speed linked to your riding speed or trainer.

Choose Homewind if …

  • you already own a supported Xiaomi Smart Fan, or want one fan for the living room in summer and the trainer in winter,
  • you ride Zwift or Rouvy on Apple TV and struggle with Bluetooth connections,
  • you don’t mind a short one-time setup.

And DIY relay controllers?

Many DIY projects switch or dim a plain fan with a relay. That works with any fan, but you wire mains voltage yourself. Homewind avoids this: it only sends commands to the fan over Wi-Fi.
